About us

Astound US Inc is a new kind of Artist Representation business based in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, and now with offices in London.

We aim high - to Astound - by being the Agency with the best in contemporary children's book illustration, and both licensing and commercial art from around the world.

We back that up with excellence in every aspect: from the first presentation, to how we project manage, and all the way through to how we invoice.

We Astound by being good at what we do with a snappy, can-do, enthusiastic, talented and creative attitude. And yes, we're not expensive.

All those things that make for an 'astounding' outcome.

Our promise to artists: career advancement with the right clients, regular creative guidance, strong administrative support and on time payment

Drawn to better.

Be drawn to better.

No matter where you are in the world or at whichever stage of your freelance artist career you may be, we're passionate about helping your career be more successful and rewarding by creating the art you love most! We are on your side: we'll give you insider's tips and client feedback for your folio development, and also introduce you directly to leading children's publishing houses, greeting card companies, jigsaw puzzle and game manufacturers, poster and decorative product suppliers (tableware, stationery)… the list goes on!

We're here to discuss the artistic direction you'd like to pursue and make that a reality with you.

Our positive relationships with our artists have made us the most rapidly growing Artist Agency in New York, possibly the USA. Here in the center of the publishing world, we are just a few subway stops away from the biggest brands worldwide, but we don't stay local - our agents travel everywhere to showcase your portfolio (and custom-made promotional materials!), from coast to coast in the USA, to major fairs in Europe: Frankfurt, Bologna, London and beyond.

We spread the word about your talent through personalized mail-outs, regular correspondence with close contacts in the industry, and online campaigns in addition to our state of the art site - all free to you!

Our partnership with Collaborate Agency's highly experienced team of editors and designers means that we can also support you in developing original children's book ideas into full-fledged storybooks and presentations, which we bring to the biggest children's book fairs of the year.

Best of all, we make sure you're paid right on time.

Astound goes to the Frankfurt Book Fair October 16 2017

Around the World

As you may know, last week was the Frankfurt Book Fair. As the largest book fair in the world, Frankfurt attracts members of the publishing industry from more than 140 countries. With over 7,300 exhibitors (2,000 of which specializing in Children’s publishing) Astound Agent Rachel was mesmerized. She was able to meet with some of our favourite clients to share artists portfolios and keep an eye out for the latest illustration trends.

Throughout the week Rachel had a range of fun and rewarding meetings with publishers and creative directors including Little Tiger Press, Auzou and Laurence King. We received some fantastic feedback about the quality of our artists work and how lovely and easy they are to collaborate with.

It was brilliant to see such diverse and well designed stands; each publisher giving thought to how to best display their new titles. We were particularly impressed with Usborne’s jungle themed haven. The most rewarding part of the experience had to be spotting all the titles illustrated by our own #astoundingartists. From finding Alex Willmore’s ‘The New LiBEARian’ in pride of place on the Maverick stand to gushing over Hilli Kushnir’s new cloth book designs with the team at Quarto ; it was great to see all their hardwork come to life.

Walking around the different halls, it was clear to Rachel that 2017 has seen a boom in literary middle grade and YA fiction. Whilst there was an adventure series with a magical element on every corner, the bar for cover illustrations remained incredibly high. We are happy to say we are ahead of the curb on this one, representing some fantastic veteran middle grade artists. For younger styles, many publishers were on the look out for line drawings with pops of a single colour. It was brilliant to see Balon Media spearheading this trend with illustrations by #astoundingartist Belinda Chen!

The fair was also an ideal opportunity to get an overview of developments within the Children’s Publishing industry. 2017 has seen a surge in not only diverse children’s book characters but also more diverse authors and illustrators. It’s great to see a range of characters that are illustrated by people who share those identities. We represent brilliant artists with unique voices from all around the globe and we cannot wait for all of the exciting opportunities in store.

Flick through the photos above to see more of Rachel’s Frankfurt adventures. We look forward to sharing everything we’ve learnt with our artists and working with the wonderful new contacts that we’ve made. Next stop on the European Book Fair circuit, Bologna 2018!
