Airin was born in 1988 in Boston (U.S.A.) but moved to Barcelona only 6 months later, to be where her parents were from. When she was 7 years old she moved again, to the Netherlands and later she went to University in Amsterdam. After interning at the national newspaper De Volkskrant, Airin's work was nominated for the Fiep Westendorp Stimuleringsprijs, Holland’s most prestigious illustration award. At age 27 she decided to get her MFA in illustration in San Francisco, and she has been living in Berkeley, CA, ever since. Her inspiration comes from her early childhood in Spain, where she spent a lot of time playing in nature surrounded by a large classic Spanish family. Her family is very warm and expressive, and her grandmother taught her to pay a specific kind of attention to detail. If she wasn’t an illustrator, Airin would probably be a doll maker or a community builder traveling around the world bringing people together from all different backgrounds. Her secret talent is whistling and she takes cold showers in the morning!
