Ross Dearsley was born in Kent in the year of the first manned moon landing and was raised on Marvel Comics, Thunderbirds, 2000AD and Star Wars! Saturdays were the highlight of his week when, through the doors of his local comic shop, ‘The Edge of Forever’ he could lose himself in the imaginary worlds of inspirational artists like Frank Frazetta, Ron Cobb, Syd Mead & Ralph McQuarrie.
Graduating from Kingston University in the early 90’s he initially worked in feature animation at Richard Williams Studio, but soon successfully established himself as a freelance artist. Twenty years on and Ross still enjoys the variety of innovative and challenging projects that he undertakes within the print, video game, film & TV industries.
His work is mostly digital, created using Photoshop in his home studio, but he still enjoys ‘real’ paper and pens, not to mention frequent ‘Post-it Note’ sketches.
Ross has become a hugely successful illustrator, creating illustration for Marvel Comics, created concept art for movies like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Disney’s John Carter, and designed for Electronic Arts & Sony’s video games. He lives in Surrey with his wife, daughter and a feisty Miniature Pinscher. If he wasn’t an illustrator he’d probably be… a writer, a sculptor or a movie special effects artist!
