Vanina Starkoff was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1981. She graduated as a graphic designer at the University of Buenos Aires in 2005. She trained in the art of illustrating children's books with José Sanabria for five years at Sótano Blanco school in Buenos Aires. She studied at the same school with the illustrators Oscar Rojas and Ana Morra. She attended a picture books workshop with the illustrator Gianni de Cono in Milan, Italy.
Her first picture book "Dancing in the Clouds" was the finalist in the "III International Compostela Award for Picture Books” in Spain in 2010 and was published by the publishing house Kalandraka in 7 languages (Spanish, Galician, Catalan, Basque, Portuguese, Italian and English).
Her second picture book "Red Ball" received an honorable mention in the "A la orilla del viento" picture book contest in Mexico in 2010.
Her third picture book "Flowers in the Desert" also received another honorable mention in the "Invenciones International Picture Book Contest” in Mexico in 2011.
