Jo Podmore was born in the south of England in 1970 but grew up in a small market town in Staffordshire. She has since lived in London or Surrey for over 20 years. She was smitten with art from an early age, deciding, age 6, to become an artist after winning a prize for a painting in school (she still vividly remembers that painting). Eventually moving on from poster paints and crayons she worked in watercolor and gouache, illustrating for greetings card studios and stationery and also as a copy artist for a popular series of children’s books. Now working digitally she creates imagery that is playful and often humorous. She enjoys nights at the theater, days out in galleries and afternoons watching old black and white films.
